Perhaps you have heard about diving watches even though you never take scuba diving. Yes, such a watch is for people to scuba diving in deep water. It is a necessity for those professional divers.

History

The first timepiece for scuba was created in the year of 1932. We call it Omega "Marine". After the great success of this one, more and more manufacturers began to produce this kind of sports watch. A great amount of them were produced by Hamilton, Elgin or Waltham and other manufacturers during the Second World War. After it has finished, they continued to produce more. After that, the Rolex Submariner came into being in 1954. There are more manufacturers produce such timepieces as they are becoming popular as time passes by.

Characteristics

There are standards of these timepieces. These standards are known as the ISO 6425 standard today. What are they exactly?

Features of water resistance at least for 100m.

Visibility at 25 cm in the dark.

Straps should be capable of withstanding for 200N of force

Chemical, Shock, Magnet resistance are necessary.

There are at least nine standards! It is these standards that make them to be perfect watches all the time.

Case

The basic materials of the cases are plastics, ceramics, and stainless steel and so on. They are required to be more stoutly than any other types of wristwatches in the market.

Bezel

A bezel encircling the face is the typical feature of a diving watch.

Water resistance

There are many requirements of the function of water resistance. They include: be able to be immersed in 30 cm of water for 50 hours and in a suitable pressure vessel etc. These are also called as the "ISO 6425 water resistance testing".

Strap

Rubber is the most common material of the straps. Stainless Steel and Titanium are also easy to find in them.

A watch for divers is not an ordinary one. It helps the divers to know the time even though they are deep in water. Besides, it helps them to be safer under the ocean as they know the consumption and surplus of oxygen from it!
