Mont Blanc Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph Open Date
The Montblanc Star Nicolas Rieussec Monopusher Chronograph is available in limited edition, in either 18k white, yellow or red gold and 950 platinum.
The Montblanc Monopusher Chronograph case is 43 mm in diameter and comes in either gold or platinum. Inside is a fully decorated hand-wound movement, visible through a sapphire caseback. The movement features twin barrels, good for 72 hours of power reserve. An open date wheel at the top of the dial indicates the numerical day of the month. Below are two chronograph counters, one for chronograph seconds and one for chronograph minutes. The central hands indicate hours and minutes.
The chronograph function is controlled by a classic column-wheel, with a vertical, almost wear-free disc clutch. As a result, the chronograph function can remain permanently switched on. The best part about this chronograph, is that it only utilizes one pusher. And instead of engineering the pusher into the crown, like this one and this one, a separate pusher at 8 o’clock is used for start, stop and resetting of the chronograph. The first press starts the second disc, the second press stops the measured time, which can then be read from the second disc and the 30-minute counter. The third press resets the two discs to zero and prepares the replica watches for the next time measurement.
Background: Earlier this year Montblanc introduced their first in-house caliber, the MB R100. They named it after the inventor of the chronograph, Nicolas Rieussec. Rieussec’s technique of two rotating discs provided the inspiration for the design of the new chronograph.
